5th of July Detox

Holidays can be filled with food that’s really tasty and really bad for you. Yesterday was the 4th of July and I went to my brother’s house to be with family and celebrate his birthday. There was all of the traditional summer grilled fare, hamburgers, hot dogs, marinated chicken and steak. There was also potato salad, chips, sodas and cakes. I did not eat much of it because I had a healthy meal before I went but…I did have a small plate of my old favorites.

I just made a plan to do a three day raw juice cleanse starting today to give myself a gentle detox and lessen possible negative effects on my body.  Someone who hasn’t ever detoxed may feel yucky and a little tired.  No worries, it’s the toxins making their way out of the body. As time goes on the body gets rid of them.  When I detox I always feel at least a little tired at first.  Then I feel great.

There’s lots of talk about thirty or even sixty day cleanses.  While these are great to do, they may be a bit difficult for someone who hasn’t ever done one before.  Three days is an ideal start.  A three day raw juice cleanse is not only a good gentle detox, it also floods your body with nutrients that helps repair cells and facilitate processes in the body.  It can be done at any time.

Here is one of the recipes that I’ll be using.

Lush Green Detox Juice

1 bunch of kale
1 bunch of
parsley
½ cabbage
1 cucumber
1 Fuji apple

This is a raw juice so it’s important to wash the ingredients thoroughly!  Bug eggs and parasites
affix their eggs to stay-put.  They don’t just come off with a gentle rinsing. I like to soak my greens in a mixture of water and white vinegar for 5 minutes.  Then I rinse them well to remove the vinegar. The cabbage and cumber can be washed with a vegetable scrubber and a little soap. Yes soap!  Thick skin veggies can take the soap and still rinse clean.  Just rinsing them isn’t affective.

After getting used to a three day detox cleansing a five or seven day fast will be easier and if the inspiration hits thirty days here we come!

More Kitchen sponge Problems!

There was a lot of positive feedback about my sponge blog.  Lots of you actually changed to dishrags or started to microwave them.  I got this picture from one of you...

I wonder if there were actual flames!

Just a reminder:

Make sure the sponge is damp.  (You can wring it out, but leave a little moisture.)
Microwave it for one minute only. (It may seem like more is better but… maybe not!)

Also, some microwaves are stronger than others; until you are confident of timing I suggest you watch to make sure it’s okay.

Or you can just toast some marshmallows on it!  ;)

If you want to comment you can do it right below my name.  If you like the artical like it on Facebook below!

Be well!

I don't know if there were any flames. I put it in and walked away. I was watching fireworks on the 4th, and then walked into the kitchen and thought, "Somethings burning." I then began looking outside, front and back, and eventually walked completely around the house. So, after a considerable amount of time, I found my poor old sponge in the microwave.
